AI-RISE (Artificial Intelligence – Research, Innovation and Societal Education) is a pan-African research and advocacy institute dedicated to ensuring that the continent’s technological transformation serves the well-being of its people. We examine the complex intersections of artificial intelligence, critical mineral extraction, and digital infrastructure, centering human rights, environmental justice and gender equity in our work. Through rigorous, evidence-based research, regional policy engagement, and community-driven AI literacy initiatives, we work to shift the narrative from Africa as a passive resource supplier to an active architect of its digital future. Our mission is to build a just and inclusive AI ecosystem in which technological progress advances the dignity, rights and prosperity of all African communities.
We bring together research, innovation, capacity building and policy advocacy to ensure AI serves people — addressing local challenges, building the skills to participate in the AI economy and holding the human rights and environmental impact of AI’s growth on the continent to account.
